At Risk Kids Inspired Through Music

On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 1:30pm, a children\’s sextet from Franklin Pond Chamber Music performed a free concert for participants of the Horizons Student Enrichment Program in Porter Hall of Holy Innocents School. The Horizons program, which attempts to eliminate the academic gap so frequently experienced by the low-income children who participate in the program, hopes that the performance will allow program participants to see other children achieving through hard work and dedication and in turn establish goals for themselves. Yet the program also benefits Franklin Pond performers, as they learn a sense of community service and hone important skills such as discipline, public speaking and the ability to convey their passion for music through their performance. “As we enter our 25th anniversary year,” noted Kate Dalba, President of The Sandy Springs Society, “it\’s gratifying to know we\’ve made a difference in the Sandy Springs community and wonderful to see two of our long standing grant recipients working together to further some of the Society\’s goals by enriching the lives of children at academic risk through the arts.”
